How to Set an Animated GIF as Screen Saver on Mac OS
ScreenToGif is another open source tool designed just for one purpose, record a selected area of your screen and save it as an animated GIF file. What’s nice is that it’s portable.
Functionality wise, I really like the fact that this tool offers a simpler way to record any screen activity. It may not be as good as those advanced screen recording tools but it’s definitely handy. It’s just that it could have been made better. It still lacks a lot of important features and user options. I also find it a bit disappointing that it cannot properly record my computer screen in its full resolution. This is because when I set the LICEcap window to full screen, the “record” button will be pushed out of the screen area plus I couldn’t even use a hotkey to initiate the said action.

When I wrote about enhanced plugin installs being removed from WordPress 4.2 last week, a few readers asked how I created the animated image that shows how shiny updates work. I used LICEcap by Çockos Incorporated, which is free, GPL licensed software available for Windows and OSX.
Animated GIFs are useful for showing what animations and interactins looks like. Use them to get feedback from the team. Being able to quickly record and share a GIF of functionality makes it easier for your team to give feedback and to iterate on the behavior of your software.
